BIO

Hi!  My name is K. I use they/them pronouns. I'm a photographer, writer, and enthusiastic introvert. I love riding my bicycle and eating obnoxiously munchy things in public. I spent the last decade living on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Watuth, & Squamish people (Vancouver BC), and I now live in Minneapolis MN, on Dakota & Ojibwe territory. I'm grateful to split my time between the two cities.

WHAT I BELIEVE IN

Over ten years ago, I picked up a beat up, clunky, half-silver Canon Rebel XTi from a now defunct photography store in central Vancouver. I was young, alone, and afraid to look at myself in the mirror, so I thought I would try my hand at reflecting others. I soon discovered that 'photography' means to write with light. I felt like a switch inside me had been flicked on. Today, the stories I tell are about recognition, struggle, self, arrival, and dignity. My work is rooted in community, for community was the place in which I began to see and choose myself as a young queer and trans person of colour. My images strive to honour difference and identity, and my goal is for every individual to feel seen and celebrated in a small, good way.

MY APPROACH

I am a self-taught artist, and have honed my process through trust, intuition, & reciprocity with my clients. My core values include client agency, consent, fat liberation, sex positivity, and body neutrality. My approach is deeply relational; I'm invested not only in the quality of the images we shoot together but also in the precision of representing who you are. I want us to get purposeful and creative, and I also want to capture the shot that holds up a mirror to you.

You can check out kind words about my work hereI can't wait to meet you!
